Scheme approved.

The Planning and Transportation Committee approved the Barbican and Golden Lane Area Strategy.

With the area expected to see crucial changes over the next five years, including the arrival of Crossrail services at Moorgate and Farringdon in 2019 and significant development of the area’s perimeter streets,  the Strategy updates the 2008 Barbican Area Enhancement Strategy.

• Preserve the existing values and qualities of the area, including the historic environment
• Meet the needs of residents, regular visitors and workers
• Meet the needs of infrequent visitors
• Improve the quality of outdoor streets and spaces, reducing road danger and retaining network resilience
• Enhance the presence of the cultural hub.
